Death Notice: Samuel Almond

Samuel Almond, a graduate of East Suffolk High, class of 1950 (year is unconfirmed), passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at his residence in Suffolk, VA.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine E. Almond.

He received an A.A.S. degree from Paul D. Camp Community College. Some of the highlights of Samuel life are:

1. Worked as a legal clerk at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard

2.  U. S. Army veteran. Served in Korea and received a Purple Heart

3.  Member of St Timothy Baptist Church. Served as trustee and financial secretary during his life.

4.  Member of the NAACP

5. Coordinator of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.

6. Voter registration official

Although Samuel was a Disabled American Veteran, he was an active participant in community and church affairs.  I can imagine, when he was able, he was always on the go. Perhaps sometimes, every day and night of the week. I believe he was devoted to doing all he could to help others live a better life.

Samuel leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Jacqueline Hicks of Suffolk, five grandchildren and lots of family members, friends and church and community members for whom he devoted so much of his life's work.

A funeral service was held on Friday, June 7, 2013 at St Timothy Baptist Church, officiated by the pastor, Rev. Thomas E. Harden.

Mr. Almond's obituary was published in the Suffolk News Herald on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Some of the information included therein was used for this publication.
