**Peanut Bred
There is a difference between Peanut Bread and Peanut Bred. Peanut bread is a food and a good one. Whereas, Peanut Bred makes reference to a person's upbringing or something that had a great influence on his or her life as a result of peanuts.
In Suffolk, Virginia peanuts had a great influence on a lot of us and our families. Peanuts were the centerpiece of an estimated 80% of the Afro-Americans families in Suffolk. The peanut industry provided the jobs that put the money into the communities for fueling the local economy.
I am a Peanut Bred person. In high school a lot of us could not afford the cafeteria meals, so, for lunch, we settled for peanuts and soda pops. In many cases, a peanut butter sandwich was sufficient. The lunches were delicious and nutritious.
I believe the peanut lunches were one of the reasons East Suffolk High had so many beautiful and healthy girls.
Looking back, I can see why I used to say, "I like that one, but I want this one, but maybe the third one will be better." ( Come on Grady, is that real or just your imagination?")
In our homes, our parents prepared peanut bread, peanut cakes, peanut pies, peanut butter, and a lot of other peanut stuff. My grandmother, Ada Bryant raised 10 children of her own, plus several grandchildren. She, in my virtual memory, often said, "Eat lots of peanuts. They will make you healthy and intelligent." We took her advice. Look at us now. (Your opinion is private.)
Now you know, when you make the connections, why you are really a Peanut Bred person.
